Teaching 1 - Communicating Europe: Institutions, Representations and Public Opinion

The general goal of the main module is to enhance knowledge of the students referring to the complexity of European communication. The module treats the topic in terms of policy, operative strategies, organization, and impact on the cultural productions.
In particular, the module aims to provide tools to analize and evaluate the impact of European communication policies by relating them to the potential to build a new informed public sphere. Students will be provided with an overview of how the European communication system works from a professional and operational point of view.
Thematic focus:
- 1. General overview of European communication: structures, functions and environments;
- 2. Multi-level dimension of European communication policy with a particular attention on guidelines fixed by European Institutions in terms of Institutional Communication and informative space;
- 3. The role of traditional and digital media in the construction of European speech practices;
- 4. The role of journalism and other sources of information in creating European storytelling;
- 5. The new European Public Sphere and the opportunities given by social media environments;
- 6. Going local communication strategies as a form of engagement and communication to the territories.
